Sierraville-Loyalton-Graeagle

30-60 minutes north of Truckee, you'll find the rural communities of Sierraville, Loyalton and Graeagle.

Sierraville is a small town of about 200 people at the edge of Sierra Valley, primarily used for cattle-grazing. There you'll find a market, gas station, post office and a few restaurants. There are many charming, old, modestly-priced homes in the area, with quite a few organic farmers in addition to cattle ranchers.

Loyalton, northeast of Sierraville, is a little bit bigger with almost 800 residents. Like its neighbor, residents are mostly ranchers, farmers, loggers and escapees from the San Francisco Bay Area looking for a simpler life and affordable housing.

Graeagle is another 30 minutes northwest of Sierraville and has a bit more of an upscale, touristy vibe. A small town of about 750 people, it has a cute, retail shopping area, many fine restaurants, several beautiful golf courses nearby and plenty of camping, hiking and lodging for weekend getaways. With Reno only about an hour away, it's a popular local destination.

Home prices start at $200,000 for a rustic cabin in Sierraville, run to over a million for a luxury home in one of several gorgeous golf communities and can go over $55 million for large acreage ranches.
