A pastoral, pleasant community nestled at the foot of the mountains where the Truckee River cuts into town, you'll enjoy this little taste of Tahoe, so close to Reno.
Verdi is located along I-80 where the Truckee River exits the Truckee Canyon and flows to Reno. Straddling the state line between Nevada and California, it's a serene, rural community, tucked beneath the mountains with a mix of forest, pasture and desert landscape.
Right outside your back door, you'll find hundreds of miles of 4x4 off-road vehicle trails, with options that will take you all the way to Truckee or even Loyalton if you so desire. Verdi also has its own elementary school, a lovely river park, an RV park, a couple of casinos, a few restaurants and shops, including Cabela's, but generally, residents drive into Reno to do their shopping.
One important thing to note is that you can have either a California or Nevada address in Verdi, so it's important to pay attention to which side of the line you're on when searching for property. Beyond the obvious tax differences, on the California side, water rights are included with the land, whereas in Nevada they aren't and may need to be purchased separately.
Verdi has a decidedly country feel, with large lots for most homes and acreage available for those who want to keep horses or other livestock. Home prices begin in the mid $500,000s and go up to well over $3 million for custom luxury homes. Waterfront homes along the Truckee River are also sometimes available.
