Raw, Rugged, Pristine

The Virginia Highlands neighborhood is located east of south Reno up Highway 341, aka Geiger Grade Road. A very curvy drive, it's at least a 20-minute ride up to the start of the neighborhood and can be an additional 20 minutes or more to get to your property if you are located toward the back of the subdivision. Most roads are dirt and gravel, with winter travel generally necessitating 4-wheel drive.

Lot sizes typically start at 1 acre and go to well over 20. The most common topography consists of gentle, rolling, rocky hills with native sagebrush and pinion pines. These properties are zoned for horses, the number allowed depending on the size of the parcel.

All the homes here are custom-built, generally in a more conservative, traditional style. Water is supplied by well, so make sure supplies are adequate before purchasing here. Sewer is handled by septic, and gas is available via propane tank, making this neighborhood a great choice for those looking to try an off-grid lifestyle, though electricity, phone and internet are all available.

If you're looking to build your custom dream home, there are many lots still available. Prices start at as low as $35,000 and go up to over $200,000. Homes generally start in the mid $300,000's and can go up to over $900,000.
